U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents began immigration enforcement operations Saturday in Charlotte, federal officials confirmed, after reports circulated Wednesday that they could arrive as soon as the weekend.

Community members and first responders gathered on bridges and along the highway to watch a procession for fallen Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Weeks in the Charlotte area Wednesday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Four law enforcement officers were killed, and four others were injured in what became a standoff Monday in a Charlotte neighborhood.
Four officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were injured in the shooting, police said, including Joshua Eyer, who died from injuries later Monday night. City of Georgetown sees first black mayor elected

The City of Georgetown saw its first black mayor elected Tuesday night, according to WPDE.

Brendon Barber, Sr. beat Ron Charlton in the City’s mayoral race with preliminary results showing Barber gained 61 percent of the votes at 1,411.

Barber of Georgetown has served on city council since 1998, according to the City’s website.

Charlton got 39 percent with 898 votes, WPDE reports.

Those are unofficial results, and they will be certified Thursday.
